Japanese Version of Learning Irish due in January

The Japanese translation of Mícheál Ó Siadhail's Learning Irish is due on 24 January 2008, published by Kenkyusha, Tokyo, with the ISBN 4327394122. The editor in chief, Prof. Kuninao Nashimoto of Hosei University, Japan, has made the Japanese version more readily accessible for Japanese learners than the original and probably more user-friendly than the German version, with many features including detailed translator's grammatical notes and helpful explanatory materials.

Skara Brae

Bhreathnaigh mé ar an clár Skara Brae ar TG4 aréir. Chonaic mé Toru, atá cara dom, sa slua ansin. Dúirt siad gur maith leo an fhuaim 'SK' den ainm ag an am nuair a thosaigh siad an grúpa.

Bhuail mé le Tomás Mac Eoin an lá eile sa Cheathrú Rua. Dúirt sé
amhráin dom. Bhí siad go h-álainn. Buíochas le Dia.

Closing of a Hotel in Toraigh?

Léigh mé i Lá inniu (8 Lúnasa):

'[Beidh] an t-oileán [Thoraí] fágtha gan óstán ar an bhlian seo chugainn'

a deir únéir Óstán Thoraí, Pádraig Ó Dubhchoinn le fios do Lá, inne.

Sad news indeed. I read another sad news on the closing of Maruzen Kyoto in fall (in Tongariyama-san's blog).

Hope anything bright will come into being even from these, with the help of God.

Amhran Rinn Mhaoile

30 Iúil. Bhí mé ag éisteacht le 'Amhrán Rinn Mhaoile' le Bríd Ní
Mhaoilchiaráin i gCill Chiaráin. Bhí sé an-bhinn agus go haoibhinn. A blessing. Buíochas le Dia.

Steeped in Conamara

I'm now steeped deep into Conamara, hearing local people talk in their dialect. The house I'm staying at has one of the best shower facilities that I ever come across in Ireland. Not that it is
ultra-modern with fancy stuff and so on, but that it can be used quite effectively: temperature and quantity of water can easily be managed using the control buttons. That's simple enough, but sin sin!
